Seven Dead Hard Drives In Two Years
Hey guys, as the title says I've had seven Western Digital hard drives go out in just under two years. I fear I'm about to add another one to that pile. My first one ran for six months and then went out due to the "Click of Death." The second and third ones did the same thing in the same amount of time. As for the fourth through eighth ones, they would run fine for one to six months and then start randomly giving me the Blue Screen of Death. Finally I would turn my computer on one day to find that my hard drive had amnesia and couldn't remember much about Windows XP. Dirty installs and reformats would clear this up for a few hours, but then my hard drive would die again.
My original setup consisted of: Motherboard: ASUS A8V Deluxe GPU: ATI Radeon 9800 PRO RAM: 1 Gig PC2700 Powersupply: 450 Watt Brandname Unknown Hard Drive: Western Digital 7200 RPM 80 GB CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Over the past two years I have changed out every single part due to upgrade and/or changing a part to see if that was causing my hard drives to fail. My current specs are: Motherboard: Foxconn 6100K8MA GPU: GeForce 7900 GTX RAM: 2 Gigs PC3200 Powersupply: CoolerMaster 600 Watt Hard Drive: Western Digital 7200 RPM 250 GB CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ I must admit that although the motherboard was mostly a downgrade, it is still a newer and different one. Also, although the CPU is the same model, it is still a different processor than what I started out with. Along with this, I recently built a computer for my parents and put all of my old parts in it with the exception that it has a different power supply and a Seagate hard drive rather than a Western Digital. So far they haven't had any problems. I have called almost every company from whom I own parts and none of them have been able to help. I am getting tired of packaging up and shipping out my hard drives for new ones and would really like to solve this problem. This is unlike anything I've ever heard of and I've been messing with computers for quite some time. Does anybody have any suggestions? I would really appreciate them. -PieceMaker |

Re: Seven Dead Hard Drives In Two Years
I've been very pleased with my WD HDDs over the years (I've got 7 in this box and they are all over 3 years old and the oldest is about 5)....so what I'm thinking is that you have a heat problem in your case...find a program that will allow you to monitor the temp of the drive...if its above 50°C then its too hot for sure....

Hi Missdede!!
You have to create a new thread, and post in details about your issue. Are you want to delete the partition or just remove the recovery programs. Make sure to create a new thread

Re: Seven Dead Hard Drives In Two Years
Hi PieceMaker I have 2 WD drives and no problems. Do you for any reason move your PC case while it is running because HDD's dont like that and another point to consider is the handling of the HDD's when they are delivered to you, is it possible they are roughly handled?

Re: Seven Dead Hard Drives In Two Years
Two thoughts come to mind. First is heat buildup in your case, the second is voltages that are being fed to this computer. I would check what kind of voltage is coming from the wall plug in you are using to see if it is normal. Then I would run SensorviewPro to see what is going on inside that case.
