[SOLVED] External hard disk does not open when double-clicked
Hello.
I have a Fujitsu external hard disk. When I plug it into my laptop (OS is Windows Vista Home Premium) it shows up in "Computer" but cannot be accessed when double-clicked. When double-clicked, message pops up saying "Application not found." However it can be accessed by right clicking and selecting "Open" or "Explore". This is only a recent problem. I have run a virus scan on my laptop and on the hard disk but nothing shows up. I am using Norton Internet Security. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by J_e : 01-12-2008 at 09:24 AM. |

Re: External hard disk does not open when double-clicked
Hi J_e!!
It seems like your hard drive has infected before, but the infections already cured. But it might left behind the autorun file. Ok, here is the steps you might try on your computer. Click Start, click Computer Press Alt on your keyboard Click Tools, then Folder Options Choose View tab Change the settings to: >>> Choose Show hidden files and folders >>> Remove checkmark from Hide extensions for known file types >>> Remove checkmark for Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) >>> Click Apply and OK ![]() Now, right click on your external drive and choose Explore. Can you locate any file with "Autorun.inf" name. Delete this file. Disconnect your external drive, and reconnect it back. Try to double click on it now ![]()

![]() Make sure you change back the configurations to the default back. Open up the Folder Options, on the View tab, Choose the Do not show hidden files and Folders Also, put checkmark on two items below that, which you removed earlier, and all set ![]() Glad to help you J_e ![]()
