Alright, here it is
I have a laptop that was running Windows 2000. It is a Dell Latitude C610, a little outdated but works just fine until I started uprgrading. At first, I selected the "upgrade" install version of Windows XP, so i still have all my old files, documents, etc. But I soon realized a "clean" install of XP would be more appropriate, since none of those old documents were even necessary. I believe I chose to delete/override the upgraded xp with the clean install XP, but for some reason that did not happen. Now I have both systems on the same harddrive, taking up valuable space. Can I a) erase the upgraded XP from the hard drive, leaving the clean install of XP, or 2) wipe the hard drive completely and just start over? thanks, emjanson Last edited by emjanson; 01-07-2008 at 01:08 PM. |

Re: Partitioned?
Hi, welcome to TSF.
![]() You can do both. a. Start the "clean XP install" and delete the "upgraded XP" Windows folder. There are other folders that can be deleted - like "Program files" and "Documents and Settings", but that's a bit more complicated. You may also have to edit the boot.ini file. So it would be better to: b. Use DBAN to wipe the drive (warning - everything will be deleted) and reinstall XP. |
