installing new hard drive...need help

I am in the process of installing a new hard drive on my mother's dell 4550 series. The hard drive is seagate barracuda 160gb hard drive. The bios reads the hard drive, but when I try to install windows 2000 the i get an error message DISK I/0 error: Status 00008001. Any help in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated.

Re: installing new hard drive...need help

Sounds like the drive needs to be partitioned and then formated.

Re: installing new hard drive...need help

I have the same Dell system, why are you installing Win 2000? Why not just use the XP disc it came with?
