hard drive from older machine
Hi all.
I am new to this site. I am new to building of fixing computers also. my problem currently is as follows. I have 2 machines. one is an older HP pavillion and the other is a 2003 eMachine. the eMachine hard drive quit working. I had it tested and it would not spin up. the HP machine, the power supply seems to have quit working, again it was taken to someone and tested, something about the fan wuit working etc. anyhow I decided to try an take the harddrive from the HP and put it into the eMachine. I put it in and the machine started running. then I get a screen up that says the following. keyboard error or no keyboard present CMOS checksum error- defaults loaded. the keyboard is from the eMachine and worked when it broke (in june of 07) the Hard drive is a Maxtor the old hard drive was a samsung. I am stuck and do not know what else I can do. or do I just bite the bullet and buy a new samsung hard drive, the same as what came out of the eMachine originally? thank you |
