external hardrive - all files not displaying

i have a simpletech 120 gig external harddrive that is not displaying all of my music files whenever i connect it to my computer now. i used to go into the folders and i could find any song, now it only lists the bands from A-R and the rest just don't show up, and if i try to play a song it freezes. when my itunes is on it won't update my ipod with the songs and stuff.
if anyone can figure out anything please let me know! thank you!

Re: external hardrive - all files not displaying

Sounds like your drivers got corrupted and need to be reinstalled. Are you using the same player program? A different player program may not be set to recognize the particular format the songs are in. Your program might think that you are trying to copy protected material and stop you.

Re: external hardrive - all files not displaying

If it worked fine before and you have not changed anything I would suspect a virus infection. Run a thorough scan. You might try AVG Free in case your antivirus is missing it. Be sure to scan your external hard drive as well.
Digital cameras and Cellphones as well as Ipods use a program to communicate with the computer. Sometimes called drivers or programs. Try to reinstall the driver for your ipod. Check the ipod web site for any updated drivers.
Another option is to restore your system to the settings it had at an earlier date when everything worked. To restore go to: Accessories/ SystemTools/ Restore. Open restore and select a restore point (date) that it worked before.
