Maxtor 3200
So, I plugged my laptop (19v) power supply into my Maxtor (12v) supply. (The worst news is I've done this before...
) Anyway, the light now flickers rapidly and the drive makes no sound, even when plugged in the right way. The computer also does not recognize it at all. Is there any hope of getting my data back? I've heard of possibly taking HD out of its shell and inserting it straight into the computer....does that sound feasible? and if so, is it something a relative layperson could actually do? Thanks very much for any help on this one! |

Re: Maxtor 3200
Hi, welcome to TSF.
![]() If you're lucky only the print/chips in the enclosure's interface are gone. Do you have a desktop PC? If so - take the hard drive out of the enclosure. With the PC unplugged from the wall > take the data cable from the CD drive and connect it to the HDD to see if it works at all. If the drive is OK you might want to get a new, empty drive enclosure. Maybe one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCateg...nal-Enclosures |

Re: Maxtor 3200
Hey Eneles, thanks for the reply,
Ok, thats what i had hoped to do, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I think my best bet is to get a Com science student at the university here to help me out. Any idea what my chances are to have a surviving hard drive? could 19v fry the whole thing? or, maybe its more of a waiting game and I just have to see when I plug it in...? |
