defragmentor program that's FREE
Anyone know a good very fast FREE defrag program? My HDD crashed last month and I can't remember what one I had one there, It was one someone from here recommended, said it was very fast, and that it would defrag a HDD in like 15 min. Well I used it, and it still took 4 hours to defrag my 300GB HDD.
Is there anything that is faster? I have Vista by the way |

Re: defragmentor program that's FREE
Thank you both for your comments.
Having run a defrag leaving no fragmented flies, I get a warning that some Things are not optimized, and suggest I should download Auslogics Boost Speed 'To improve performance of Windows core Internet Browser Disk & Registry The scan & some of the tweaks in this program are free' Your advise would be appreciated. I am always worried about registry cleaners. BTW this is concerning my Vista laptop not my PC XP2. I find the Windows built in defragger on XP does the job quickly and well, it also offers defrag on all drives including flash drives, which I find Auslogic does not show flash drives on their pull down, but does show Maxtor Ext HD and Lexor. May I wish you both, and all who may be following this thread a Happy & Healthy New Year. Ron.

Re: defragmentor program that's FREE
registry cleaners can be handy on occasions but regular use gradually corrupts the registry usually beyond repair

Re: defragmentor program that's FREE
This is very true, as registry cleaners (and defraggers) usually are the culprits of this sort of issues. I would stay away from them, since I only use my cleaner ONCE every year just to keep the odds down for my PC to go down the drain. If I ever use them, it is because I deleted a program manually and wanted a cleaner to find and delete the values.

Re: defragmentor program that's FREE
You two have got me worried. For some years now I have used
CCleaner which was recommended to me by a very dear friend on another Forum, who alas is no longer with us. He was a computer technition. I always do a backup of the registry and keep it for a few days just in case. Ron.
