eneles, you rock!
I never posted, but read your posts re: using TestWin, and saved all my data from a Buslink external HD. I had to rebuild the bootsector and the FAT, which I was initially afraid to do, due to the "Experts only!" warning in the UI, but since you suggested it to someone else I figured I'd give it a go, and it worked! Thanks a million!
I'm ready to trash the drive, but I thought I'd ask first: Although I repaired the FAT and saved my data, I can't remove it and re-attach it without going through the whole process again with TestWin. It seems the MBR or the FAT or both are getting corrupted when I do, even though I click the "safely remove..." button first. (Actually, the first attempt at "safely..." fails, "cannot stop device," but the next time it worked and said I could remove.) Is there anything I can try, or is this drive toast? Appreciatively, C |
