[SOLVED] Unknown Device - USB External
I am running XP SP2, I have a Intel Pentium Care 2 Duo, HP Model Number a1530n desktop. I have a few external hard drives that have always worked well in the past. This evening I was formating one of them when it came up with an error and every since then when I plug in the drive it shows a task bar baloon which states USB Device not recognized. I've tried plugging it in a few times. I tried it on a another computer(Vista laptop), and it did the same thing. I've gone to device manager, but there doesn't seem to be anything in there to fix it because there is no driver for this. I am not sure the manufacturer of the drive, but the enclosure is Bytecc, and this drive has never given me any problems in the 1+ year I've had it. Is there any way to get this drive back and format it?

Re: Unknown Device - USB External
Hi, welcome to TSF.
![]() Is the drive spinning? First - try another USB cable. If that doesn't help: Disconnect the enclosure from power and USB - open it and make sure nothing is loose inside. |
