Cry [SOLVED] Reformatted Hard-drive Error?

I just recently reinstalled windows XP and SP2 and I did a reformat, I also deleted the unpartitioned space. Now, usually 90% of the time, my computer when I open any program it slows down drastically, and when I am running an application that plays music if I open anything the music gets all scratchy. And if I run a game I get 2 seconds of game play then about .5 seconds of computer lag.

It never did this before I used to be able to download things, play music, and play games at the same time all without performance delay.

Could this be because of me deleting the unpartitioned space or what?

Please help, I would like to get all of my PCs power back.

-Sincerely,

Max

Re: Reformatted Hard-drive Error?

Uh, I really don't know how to do either of those, and I don't have my motherboard's cd.

Re: Reformatted Hard-drive Error?

in the device manager click on view at the top and then on show hidden devices
then check if you have any yellow alongside of anything
this is from ms here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817472/
might be easier to follow
WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type ResetErrorCountersOnSuccess, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. Type 1, and then click OK.

Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor: 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4. Type ResetErrorCountersOnSuccess, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6. Type 1, and then click OK.

Note The numbered subkeys that are listed earlier correspond to the primary and secondary IDE channels on a computer that contains a single IDE controller. If your computer contains two IDE controllers, the numbered subkeys for the primary and secondary IDE channels for each of the two controllers may be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0003

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0004

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0005
To verify that you have located the correct subkey, verify that the DriverDesc value for the subkey contains the string value "Primary IDE Channel" or the string value "Secondary IDE Channel."

Re: Reformatted Hard-drive Error?

Ok I did that registry thing, I don't know what that is supposed to do, I also read the MS thing, it said PIO mode would set itself after 6 CRC errors, this is the case. It is in PIO mode, what should I do now? Thank you for the help so far.

Re: Reformatted Hard-drive Error?

doing the registry bit should have set it to dma mode
in the device manager click on the ide channel and in properties/advanced settings check what it is set to
