Bios detecting h/d as nothing
Ok here's a toughy.
WD2000JD Caviar SE 7200rpm SATA Was in my fileserver with a 8port sata 2 card HPT Rocketraid2320 card. Was always in Legacy mode. I moved all data off this to use this drive as OS drive in new comp. When i booted up in new comp it detected a drive but it had no label. Nothing. Just blank. Windows Vista install started but found no drive to install on.. I tried to use the WD diag tools but it says no WD drive found and quits. I then thought hmm wonder if it works on normal onboard sata of fileserver. And that does the same thing. Put it back on the file server 8port sata 2 card and it works no problemo. Can go into windows format, copy etc.. It's as if this sata raid card has buggered up the normal firmware or something on this h/d and now i can only use it on that.. Any help would be appreciated as i'm now totally stumped.. I've been looking for things that do some kind of factory reset to the drive but doesn't appear to be any. WD tools diag, DLG are useless. |

Re: Bios detecting h/d as nothing
Hello and welcome to the TSF. While I'm not familiar with server/raid setups, is the drive's jumper set in the correct position.....http://wdc.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wdc....ted=1056559256

Re: Bios detecting h/d as nothing
Yes i tried all the jumper settings. Although it's sata so shouldn't matter.
I used another drive instead. also a WD2000JD but 0HBB0(close enough) I forgot to take the delay spinup pin off and it did the same thing as the other one did. Until i realised what i had done. Took that off and it was fine. But i did double check this on the problem drive. Even made sure the actual metal contact hadn't been stuck in there. I'm still baffled. At this stage if the raid card dies that h/d may be a brick |
