Solid state vs. hard drive
If you compared this solid state hard drive with a "normal" i.e.motorized with platters hard drive what specs would it match up to? Would it be comparable to a 7200 rpm drive? 10,000 rpm drive?

Re: Solid state vs. hard drive
The only info I could find on the TRanscend site is
Performance : Read up to 30MB/s, Write up to 28MB/s (8GB, 16GB) (with UDMA Mode4) Read up to 26MB/s, Write up to 13MB/s (32GB) (with UDMA Mode4) they say it's compatible with most PC and laptop drives ( laptop are normally 5400rpm) It's not so much the rpm that is the question but just how fast can it read and write to the drive .. it will be more or less linear through the whole Volume since there will be no inside to outside head tracking/searching required In these days of high Volume drives though I can only see that it would be helpful for mobility. Stick it in your pocket like a 2.5" USB Drive and take it wherever you want it without lugging your whole PC with you.

Re: Solid state vs. hard drive
Thanks! Is the 30 mb/s and 28 mb/s read write time as fast or faster than a hard drive? I am not looking for a portable hard drive. I am looking to replace the hard drive in my notebook computer. I often work in very dusty, dirty, hot humid environments and would like something a little more secure. I am also looking to stretch my battery performance a bit.

Re: Solid state vs. hard drive
Toshiba specs 160GB laptop drive 5400 rpm
Max transfer rate to host 300MB/sec I'd say that the Transcend drive has a long way to go before it works as fast as a normal drive.
