Western Digital 500gb SATA ticking...

I just got this drive 4 days ago and I've been noticing that sometimes it will click once or even a few times, and these clicks are louder than the normal clicks you hear when the head is moving, I was wondering if I should just get a new drive or if this is common.

Re: Western Digital 500gb SATA ticking...

Sorry to double post, but sometimes is even kind of an overstatement, it happens like once every 5 minutes or so, usually when accessing the drive for something, if I get it working hard it seems to happen more often.

Hi,

Reseat the SATA cable (on the motherboard as well) and try another power plug.

Download the utility from the drive manufacturer and test the drive against this utility.
