Is my hard drive toast???
Ok, I bought a cheap new GFX card for my old PC because my new one is gonna take about a month before I get it running again.
So anyway, I plug in the old Hard Drive, I boot up, it recognizes the HD in the diagnostics on startup, but then it says "disk read error". I'm not sure if this means the HD is toast? so I go into the bios and set the disk as the first priority, disable floppy disk scanning, and then try again. No Dice. So I decide to go into repair using the boot XP disc. I try chkdsk and it says "it appears there is one or more unrecoverable problems" or something to that extent... I figure i'll try to re-format anyway and install a fresh copy of XP. So I start the process and it recognizes the disk, sees the partition etc... But now it's stuck on 7% of re-formatting for about 30 minutes now... Is this normal? I dont remember it taking this long. I have a bad feeling the HD is toasted... is this true? |

Re: Is my hard drive toast???
I share your feeling of the drive being toast, lol. To make sure go to
the manufacturer of the drive and create a bootable floppy and run diagnostics on the drive, then you will know for sure.
