loading OS from old hard drive to new hard drive

i want to copy my operating system from my old hard drive to a new one but i don't know the proceedure.

any help out there?

if the new harddrive is going to go into the same computer that the old was in, then check the cd that should have came with the harddrive. There should be a utility on it that will help you with the transfer. or you can download it from the harddrives manufacturers website.

or if you have the os cd, just place it into the drive and reboot and follow the on screen instructions. If it does not work, we need to know exactly what operating system you have.

the old hard drive is a 'quantum big foot' (which is a very old 7 gig drive) ... the drive that i want to copy the OS (XP) onto is also a quantum (15 gig drive) ... i understand that there is a way to slave the new drive and copy the files from the old drive from the c:\ prompt ... but i don't know what the copy command line is (or even if it is possible with XP)...
