Adding 2 new SATA drives, want new RAID 0 volume
I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RC210G running XP MCE SP2. It has an Intel 82801GR/GH SATA RAID controller running a RAID 0 with two SATA WD 160 GB drives as Volume 0.
I edit lots of video, so I bought two identical Maxtor BASICS SATA II/300 500 GB drives and installed them in the two vacant bays. My goal is to use these as a RAID 0 data only volume. On reboot, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" popped up. I thought this wasn't needed with the new SATA drives. I let it look for the drivers on the 'Net and on the CD included with the Maxtor drives. No luck. So I cancelled the wizard and used the Intel Matrix Storage Console to configure the new Maxtors as "Volume 1" RAID 0. Then I used Windows to format the new array. On reboot, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" is still looking for drivers for "Volume 1." The drives show up under "My Computer" as "J:" and show roughly 930 GB available. The Intel Matrix console shows the two arrays (the original WD and the new Maxtors), and the Maxtors are configured as Volume 1. I can read and write to the drives, though writes take a LONG time... 26 GB from C: (WD RAID) to J: (Maxtor RAID) takes over 2 hours. And the "Found New Hardware Wizard" appears at each reboot. I obviously missed something. Can someone clue me in? Thanks in advance! |
