It sounds like the controller circuit, but not the hard drive itself, is broken.
That should be quite easy to replace, but I don't know what it would cost. |

sdas, on the bottom it has four screws...it's tamper resistant so they are torqued in. you will need a torque screw driver.
hope this helps. LizzyBeth

Thanks, Lizzy; I suspected it; but did not believe Seagate would go to that extent to temper-proof the an enclosure, meant to accommodate replacable drives. :=(

Your Welcome! I was surprised that it was 'tamper' proof also. I don't think I will ever own another one. Mine is still sitting here full of data I can't get.

LizzyBeth - have you tried looking for an identical drive on eBay?
Then use the PCB from that drive. |

Re: Seagate 80 gb external..can I retrieve data on it after it has "died"
Hey,
I saw you're having problems with a "dead" hard drive. If it's really dead, then Disc Savers can help you. However, they want between $500-$2,040 (depending on how many files they get off). I don't know if you have that kind of money to put into getting those files. But if you want the information to get in touch with them, let me know. |
