My System

Sector requested not found

I had HDD 120GB western and it was having some problems while copying some files it say "sector requested was not found" ,Formating the drive couldn't fix it, i delete the file that have this problem and after some days another new file say this message so i started losing new files but it worked fine and i could you the HDD, then i bought a new Power Supply and after 2 or 3 days the HDD didn't work again, in formating through DOS it didn't say anything it just skip it without any message,FDISK it said can't read fixed disk, I took from a friend a new HDD to boot from it, and I run Western digital diagnostics and it said S.M.A.R.T failed before testing, in the info all was passed except
Raw Read Error Rate
ID:1
Value:1
threshold:51 or 52 don't remember exactly
worst:1
warrant:1
i searched over the internet it said that kind of problem can't be fixed at home, I tried the HDD on my friend PC but it also didn't work the motherboard and the windows detect it but i can't access it from anywhere
now i am working on my friend's HDD and it started to say while copying "sector requested was not found" so probably it may get worst and i don't wanna buy a new HDD before i make sure that the motherboard and the power supply not related to this and it was only coincidences
so how can I know my Power Supply is fine and the motherboard?

thanks

Re: Sector requested not found

If there is a S.M.A.R.T. error, there is not much chance the drive will survive. If you get that error, back up immediately, because the drive is normally gone or very near dying. For the error you are seeing on the other drive, I would suggest that you try to format it using one of the following two programs.

Dban

Kill Disk

These programs do take quite a bit of time, but they clean the disk much more than any format will. When the drive is done, it will be back to factory specs and completely clean. Be sure you do not erase any other drive on the computer while running either of these programs, so I suggest you remove all other hard disks while running either of these programs.

Please understand, if you use one of these programs, you lose ALL information and data from that disk.
