Computer locks on install/download finishing
I'm really starting to think it might not be a hard drive problem, but I thought I would get a second opinion.
Whenever I'm downloading anything at all with windows installer and the download hits 99% the computer will lock up, when I reboot it did finish and save, but the computer also pretty consistently locks up on bigger application installs. I'm able to access any and all info on the hard drive, I'm able to play games already on the computer, etc, but I'm having this problem. First thing I did was make sure all chipset drivers, video, audio, etc drivers were updated, no help. I then thought maybe I could try a clean reformat and reinstall of windows. Still no help, computer also freezes during Windows install sometimes. I tried removing the jumper on the back of my hard drive that restricted the speed to 1.5Gb/s back to 3Gb/s.. figuring a shot in the dark was the best I had. I've run memory tests on all my sticks of RAM and they are showing up fine, I've defragged and run tests on my HD, it also shows up clean. I've updated my BIOS... I'm running out of ideas. What could this possibly be? Any ideas? |
