raid 2 sata controller cards together
Is it possible to raid two 4 channel Promise sata controller cards together ? and if so would you treat them as two hard drives? The reason I ask is because I have a promise 4 channel sata controller, 2 500 gig seagate sata and 80 gig seagate sata hard drives. I would like get another promise card with the same three drives and create a tarabite array. I know it would be a lot easier to buy a 6 channel sata card but I do not have the money to do so. Your help would greatly accepted thank you.

Re: raid 2 sata controller cards together
As far as i know it is not possible as there are two separate controllers in different slots and they can not talk to each other. They will show up independent in the bios. If you raid 0 the two 500's you will have your terabyte array. I don't advise such a large array as RAID 0 only writes the data once, it does not achieve data redundancy. If one drive fails a terabyte of data is a lot to loose, if your card supports it a 4 drive raid five is one of the safest arrays

Re: raid 2 sata controller cards together
That is the raid I was going to do but I wanted a true terabyte. My 500s are only 465 and my 80 are 74. What if they are the same model of controller? I have seen stories when doing a google search about people using Mac hardware to do it.
