[SOLVED] Computer Not Recognizing New HDD
OK so i just bought this new hard drive here: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124228 which i originally bought to put in a new media enclosure i also recently bought however i didn't realise that the media enclosure had an IDE connection and the HDD is SATA so instead i decided to put the new hard drive directly into my motherboard.
So i installed it in however i only had 1 of the leads (don't know what it's called sorry) which came from the motherboard into my original hard drive and then into my new hard drive. The other lead (the SATA cable i think) was missing so i had to buy one, i bought this one here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=006 So now i've connected that lead into the drive now but now after booting up my computer i've got no message notifying me of finding new hardware and then when trying to search for new hardware it comes up with nothing, does anyone know what the problem could be please?? |

Re: Computer Not Recognizing New HDD
you must format the drive before it will show up under my computer
right click on "my computer / select "manage" from the upper half of the menu which appears / select "disk management" in the left pane of the console which appears / in the right console of disk management find the new drive listed and right click on it / it will give you an option to "format" the drive >>>>> choose NTFS file format

Re: Computer Not Recognizing New HDD
It's OK i found out myself. So there was a SATA 2 hard drive listed but not enabled so i enabled it in the BIOS then restarted, it then said it had found new hardware and installed the drive and gave me a message saying "new hardware is installed and ready to use"
It still wasn't listed in My Computer though so i've done what you said linderman and gone into Disk Managment, this is what it looks like: ![]() So Disk 1 is obviously the new drive however when i right click on it i haven't got the 'Format' option like you said, the options i've got now are 'New Partition', 'Properties' and 'Help' I'm presuming i go on to 'New Partition' yes? |
