WD hard drive installation questions

Hey all,

whats up to everyone , I am a newbie on the board here....I am sick of people making money so easy off of my computer repair...

I started over the last year trying to take care of everything my self

so I am not fully advanced by any means, so here is my question:

I recently had a hard drive in my dell dimension that 3 of 4 quadrants were shot....so I bought a WD Sata and installed the drive along with XP again

after reinstalling xp i put in the dell start up disk with all the drivers and picked each one until I got the pc up and running...everything seems great so far., except one thing

my hard drive is now the F drive.,

and my C: drive is still listed as a removable drive....
Its annoying that the C: drive is stilll there., and now I want to add on my external drive to hold all my media files., but before I do this ., I wanted some advise in easy terms to try to help me in what my options are.,
it seems like this site has some very smart people that may be able to help me out ., pls post in the thread if you have any ideas or need more info

thanks rich tree...

ps I have screen shots of the disk management

Re: WD hard drive installation questions

I'm guessing that you have a ZIP or flash drive? . . The only practical way to correct the F and C drive mess is to disconnect the removable drive and reinstall the operating system again . . then reconnect the removable drive

Re: WD hard drive installation questions

thats the thing., i don't have a zip or a flash drive., it just kept the C: drive there for some reason., and since I have to cd drives (D, and E.,) the next available spot is F: ., so that F: is now the assigned hard drive....I don't mind re installing xp ., but should i try to remove C first., or rename it is Z: or something ?

Re: WD hard drive installation questions

What does Disk Management say about the Removable drive (C). . are you sure you do not have a small slot for a flash card to go into? What is the Brand/Model of the PC?

Re: WD hard drive installation questions

unplug all the drives but the one you want as C drive and windows will designate it C
you may have to boot into the recovery console and run
fix boot
as the mbr is usually placed on c drive
replug in your other drives and windows will assign letters to them
