Re: Harddisk ghost copying?

If you want to use the program Ghost to take an image of your harddisk then you need to purchase the software. It is a Norton Symantec program and you can purchase and download it online.

Re: Harddisk ghost copying?

A free program that is very good (better than Ghost) is called xxclone.

Re: Harddisk ghost copying?

The XXclone program does the same as Ghost, except it is better and easier to get the thing done correctly and it is FREE! The majority of our techs on this forum use the xxclone to ghost drives IMHO.

Re: Harddisk ghost copying?

You are most welcome. This program is better than Ghost as I said earlier. Funny that you wrote this this evening, because I just did an XXclone backup about ten minutes ago before I saw this post. Drove in to town to get some Turkey supplies for the wife and when I got home, it was done.

If you want the exact copy, be sure you use the option for Boot.ini, etc that is on the last tab. When you check off of those, then go back and XXClone and it will be bootable. Thanks for reporting back.

Re: Harddisk ghost copying?

Thank YOU for the tip, much appreciated!
I'm trying to solve a hard drive copying issue right now, and may have to use it ! Used Ghost to copy a drive , small one to a 60GB, and the 60 won't boot past the blue splash screen. Never had a problem ghosting bootable drives before, so don't know what's up here. The drive is good, was a data back up drive in the same machine before.

Re: Harddisk ghost copying?

I don't have much confidence in Ghost since the earlier 2003 model, although I used the later models until I found XXClone. What I found was that the later models the same problem you are seeing became quite common. I experiment a lot with programs, so needed that backup quite often.

I would not mess with the Ghost program if it were me, I would give XXClone a try and see if that helps your issue. What can you lose by trying it? It is just to hard to know why Ghost won't work for you. Might be to do with the MBR, etc. that I spoke about earlier.

Re: Harddisk ghost copying?

Thanks a bunch I'll give it a run> I checked the drive, BIOS sees it correctly, compared them in DOS etc. I used Norton 2003, and 12 and both failed.
I'm sure its in the boot record !!
Thanks again ! Will report back.
