New IDE hard drive lags

Hello! I have brought a new IDE hard drive about a week ago with 320 gb capacity. I copied most fomy media files there. Now i am having problems with it. For example my music and video lag a lot, if i dl a torrent on the new drive the sustem starts lagging showing me that hardware interrupts take up 90% of my CPU. Same thing if i run Diskeeper. Any ideas what this might be?

Re: New IDE hard drive lags

Hi, welcome to TSF

Make sure DMA mode is enabled for the drive (in Device Manager).

Re: New IDE hard drive lags

What drives do you have installed (IDE/SATA)?
How are they hooked up (master/slave)?
If you're not using an 80-wire ribbon cable - replace it.
What motherboard?

Re: New IDE hard drive lags

have you tried a full system scan with an anti virus program

just for the heck of it / I would try the trial version of AVast its one of the few that can scan in safe mode (sweeeeeeeet)

also / try downloading and running memtest86.com (free) run that for at least two hours
