HD sounding like a hamster. Again.
Hi there - Ive recently replaced the hard disk in my Asus laptop, as it was making noises very similar to a hamster - this, my friend told me, is not good. So i swapped it out with a brand new Seagate 5200rpm 80Gb one, installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu Linux and set about my business.
Unfortunately, it is now making strange noises again - kind of like a crackly static hiss every time itś accessing things on the drive. Im thinking this is possibly a dodgy hard drive, though id love for someone to disagree with me... Are there any other possibilities? Im running it on only 256mb of RAM at the moment, and its noticeably slower - could this affect the HD? Are there any tweeks that cold improve the situation? Any help greatly appreciated, Andy (: |
