External HD causes system crashes

I have had the aluratek AHDU350500 USB 2.0 500GB External Hard Drive for the past few months with no problems but recently it has been causing my whole computer to crash. It only had program backups and my games on it, don't really care if i lose the data i just really want this HD working. What happened was that Steam had crashed mid download then my HD started to make this chirping sound as if the arm was hitting the arm stop inside. Then when I tried to access the drive in my computer everything froze. Then i turned it off and restarted my computer, when i turned it back on the same thing happened. I tried connecting it to other computers and the same thing keeps happening. Its not recognized in "my computer" or the disk management. anything will help and like i said the data isn't that important i just want the drive.

Re: External HD causes system crashes

More information; I figured out it will only crash explorer while its connected, and once its disconnected explorer starts back up fine.
