2 Hard drives, one not showing up

Ok I installed a spare HD in my machine the main HD I use for the computer is a sata (connected via lead to motherboard) and it works fine, the second one is the old style (IDE I think is the term) It is showing up fine in the bios and is also showing up fine in device manager in XP Pro, but when clicking start > my computer that shows all the drives it doesn't appear?

Any ideas on what the problem might be.

Thanks

Re: 2 Hard drives, one not showing up

the drive may need to be formatted

go to

control panel/admin tools/computer management/ disk management

see if that helps

Re: 2 Hard drives, one not showing up

maybe check the jumpers on the back and see if it is on cable select, master or slave.
Is it on it's own cable? if you have a new cable maybe try that

Re: 2 Hard drives, one not showing up

I think it's the cable like you said as I was using one that had like a join in it in the middle coming from the dvd drive funny enough that wasn't working so obviously that seems to be the problem.

Thanks for the replies.

dude is it turned on in the bios. it will show you that its there but may be disabled and that is the reason that it does not show up on your computer
