[SOLVED] HardDrive making odd noises
Hi, im new to this but here goes.
Recently my harddisk (i think), has been making very odd noises. I suppose the thing spins so you could call it a spinning noise. It has never made this noise before and is very loud, you can hear it from the other side of the room. Is something going wrong internally, is the whole thing about to come crashing down around me!! ![]() The noise mainly occurs when I access files, for instance when changing a song in iTunes the noise can be heard. I can't really describe the noise much better than saying its 'like a spinning noise' - almost the same kinda of noise you get when your DVD drive is burning or something like that... .. but worse.Anyway, I hope all this made sense and someone can help me - because I'm really fretting! I have ALOT of work on this computer. Thanks. |

Re: HardDrive making odd noises
Hi Marcus,
Are you sure the noise is coming off the Harddrive? Does the sound sound like a shredder (a clicking, churnning type of loud noise). If the HD is making this type of noise or any abnormal noise the chances are it is on the way out. I would do a complete backup of your system ASAP. If it is the HD it won't last much longer. Thanks, bill |

Re: HardDrive making odd noises
hi again.
thanks both of you for your reply! i've actually discovered the source of the problem with some detective work. i discovered that when this noise was happening the green light on our floopy drive was on. so after disabling the floopy drive the noise stopped. so i assume it was the floopy drive. now the noise is completely gone and we dont use the floopy drive anyway.. thanks for you help but!!
