External hard drive showing as RAW on vista when was formatted NTFS on xp
I ran into a little problem last night with not 1 but 2 of my external drives. Both of the drives were formatted NTFS the other day on a xp pro machine. When I plug them into my vista business machine they show up as RAW with no letter assigned in computer management. When I try to format it it gives an error that says to check the system log. Here is what the system log says
The description for Event ID 100 from source SDWinSec cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: timerCheckTimer Last night when I was using the vista business machine almost all of the right click features would not work on the external drive in computer management. I brought the drives into the office today and tried them out on a vista ultimate machine and its the same result exept I was able to remove the volume then was able to format one of the drives (have not tried this on the other yet since I still want to be able to access the problem). Doing a quick search I found some other forums that had this posted too but I didnt see any answers. |
