WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM issues

Well I have had problems where my CPU locks up, this might happen once a day maybe twice and maybe some days it wont happen. Even after formats and new OS installs in the past it still does it.

although one issue I have noticed is the heat coming from this is unbelievable, the whole thing is hot and hotter then normal imo. Should this be cause for concern? as it stands now for 10,000 RPM it does seem rather slow for some reason.

Re: WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM issues

I've got two WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM in RAID0 mounted in a 3 slot 5 1/4 bay with an intake fan pointed at them an have not had any heat issues. I also have a second intake fan mounted in the "dead" space just below the hard drives.

See attached photo.

What is your fan setup like?

Are you sure the hard drive is the cause? What are the temps?

Download SpeedFan from Matt's Signature and report the temps if you can.

Re: WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM issues

Well it seems temp is ok with nothing in the red.

although doing online analysis of this disk I got these readings to be concerned with:

Warning: Power On Hours Count is below the average limits (89-100). (Not sure what this is)

Re: WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM issues

if im reading it right its around 40c.

but the heat coming from it and how hot the bay is in which the drive is mounted seems its a lot hotter then that.

I am getting a reading though of a Temp 3 being at 128c (I am assuming this is nothing or nothing is connected to it?)

Re: WD Raptor 74 GB 10,000 RPM issues

Temp3 usually reports nothing (most systems). That temp looks OK for a Raptor.
