Can't boot and need to recover data from a laptop!
I got a Laptop from a friend yesterday. I foolishly said that I would fix it for her (I used fix them for a living) The problem was that the Laptop would not boot up. Instead it would defer to a blue screen with the "unountable boot volume" Error message
The strange thing was that when I tried to go into safe mode/last known good - the OS choice it gave me, it would throw me back to the blue screen. Anyway back to the important facts of the problem. I have tried booting into the recovery console. When I used the CHKDSK /P it only got as far as 10% and then froze. I then typed "FIXBOOT" this seemed to work fine. Then I typed "FIXMBR" this seemed to work, but I recieved a message after it was done saying something along the lines of "one or more critical errors on the disk" I also tried booting fom the windows cd to fix windows so i can recover the data but nothing seems to work. Some one told me to use KNOPPIX, I Downloaded it but it does nothing. Can anybody help me or tell me what software to use? Any help would be greatly apreciated. |

Re: Can't boot and need to recover data from a laptop!
These are two options:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812119020 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817145329 With the first one be careful, there might not be a key pin making it possible to plug in the drive and/or IDE cable backwards. It is especially important not to plug the drive in backwards because you will likely fry it if you do so.
