Question [SOLVED] Can't access files on hard drive

I recently purchased a new computer after my mother board crashed and I have taken the hard drive from the old pc and turned it into an external with case. The problem that I am having is that every time I try to access any of the files I get a message telling me that I do not have permission to access the file. I'm thinking that because the old pc and files were on an XP operating system and I am now on Vista I can't access the files. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Can't access files on hard drive

Hi, welcome to TSF

See if this helps: How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP
I know you're running Vista now, but there should be similarities.

Thanks for letting us know. Could you, for future reference, please explain how you fixed it?

Re: [SOLVED] Can't access files on hard drive

That link downloads a few files that will modify the registry. In my opinion that is too risky and I have removed the link.
Those interested can read about it here: http://herby.virtualplastic.net/
