[SOLVED] How should I fill my HDDs?

Let me describe you my HDD sitution.

I have 320 GIG (which is where vista is)
I have a 250 GIG (which is my main data storage ATM)
I have a 500 GIG (which is reserve)

Now my 250 gig has about 20 gigs left on it. I was wondering does filling up a HDD all the way damage it, or does it make no difference?

Re: How should I fill my HDDs?

I don't know HOW you could damage it by filling it up. I've pushed modern drives into the kilobyte level of free space just to say I did.

Ok, well I mean I was thinking of it this way.

my car can drive at 200km/h well if I always drive at 200km/h its going break down a lot faster then if I stay around 160 or 150 persay.

Re: How should I fill my HDDs?

Leave enough space to defrag it so the drive doesn't have to run hotter than it has to by the head running all over the place.

Re: How should I fill my HDDs?

defrag requires 10% of the drives capacity as free space for defragging,if you overfill a drive with a operating system on it,you will find eventually it will not boot requiring a format to regain control of it

Re: How should I fill my HDDs?

Well my OS HDD is a 320 gig which is used merely to old files temp, maxium it ever gets down is like 30 gigs then I delete all my files on there and move them else where.

How the 250 and 500 are pure data. So I guess i'ma have to leave 25 gigs free on my 250 and 50 on my 500 ok thank you kinda answers I was hoping for.
