pc reboots after boot sequence

hi im jason and new to this forum
my hdd died and my friend very kindly donated one which was identical to my old one apart from being smaller. hed installed windows xp and other software on it so i only needed to install the hdd and away i go. but it only gets to the end of the boot sequence then says windows didnt start properly gives me options of safemode and what have you. then wen one is chosen it doesnt load windows it just reboots and starts again..... somebody HELP.......PLEASE

Hi, welcome to TSF

You can't run Windows that's been installed on another machine.
There's two ways to fix that:

1. Reinstall Windows.

2. Do a Windows repair installation: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Make sure you have a legit copy of Windows.
