I need to free up space and improve the speed of my laptop. I know how to transfer files to my external hard drive; but I need to know if I can transfer programs that I have downloaded from the internet for work and/or play to the external hard drive as well, and will they work the same if I connect the external drive to my computer? Thanks

Re: Transferring files and programs to external hard drive
You can't just transfer programs to the external drive, they have to be installed on the external drive. During installation you are prompted to install in your default program files directory on your main drive. You can change this, but remember that programs will run more slowly from an external drive.
