maxtor diamondmax 10 fried - help!!

hello
this is my first post

the drive is a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 PATA133
my flatmate plugged in my external HDD yesterday with the wrong power supply
it no longer works, doesnt spin or power up at all

on the circuit board on the back i can see one tiny component is all black and burnt out just near where the power plugs in
is it possible to replace just the circuit board to fix this problem and make the drive work again?
if so is it possible to get just a replacement circuit board?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

you might get away with replacing the board if you can find an exact copy of your drive .. what I don't know is whether the information regarding physical layout and allocated space / tracks is kept on the hard disk itself or within a map on the circuit board. now with higher volume drives the disk surface is tested for defects and this info is held somewhere so that the drive is aware of where it can and cannot write.

well ive found someone on ebay who sells the PCB's
and ive located the exact one for the model i have
same id's on the chips and everything

ill give it ago

im gonna buy it on ebay for $40US
get it sent to aus

ill take some pics of the burnt out component
i hope it works

hopefully i can offer some help to people with the same problem somtime

if you like, take a picture of the burnt board and the good board. Then host the pics on a site for me to take a look at .. I'll see if I can figure out what died ..
