Retrieving data

Hi,

I have an old Packard Bell Pentium 3 PC with photos on the HD that I am trying to transfer to a Seagate External drive.The PC has no CDRecordable drive. It just a dvd player and an A drive. There is one USB port on the PC.

When I plugged the external drive into it the PC didn't see it. I went into Control Panel - Add Hardware - Storage devices and tried to add it but I had no success. The computer didn't seem to see the external, or a flash drive that I also tried.

Thanks for any suggestions.

What operating system is on the Packard Bell?
