Disk Read Error - But Works Vertically?!

Now, I know this is odd, but here's what happened. A few weeks ago, my newly installed WD 300GB HD w/ Windows Vista Home Premium Edition crashed, and the next time I booted up my PC, I got the Disk Read Error message. I've tried all the fixes I could find, but to no avail. BIOS recognizes the drive, C. But, my Windows Vista DVD w/ the Recovery Console does not. I tried updating the drivers, but that failed. /fixboot and all those commands do not work because it cannot find C:...

What is strange though is that... I can at most points, open my Comp, and basically let my HD dangle verically, and it'll boot up just fine. I'll double check the wires, but do any of you think that there could be other reasons? I can get Vista to work like 2 or so days when I put it back in, but then I get another Disk Read Error soon after...

Thanks sooo much in advanced.

Re: Disk Read Error - But Works Vertically?!

If this is a Sata drive, then cables or the power source connector possibly could be the problem. Sounds almost like you aren't making the proper connection at times with something and when it is not sitting flat, the connection is engaged.

Re: Disk Read Error - But Works Vertically?!

It is a SATA drive... But, after looking at the wires, I kind of have to rule them out, especially when they work just fine on my 80GB drive... I'm not running both of them at the same time though. And the 80 is working just fine horizontally in the bay...
