[SOLVED] Possible bad HDD, Options?

My pc has been freezing once in a while and I think its a hardware problem w/ my HDD. I have dusted, cleaned out everything, constantly run my ad-aware, avast anti-virus. I just D/L a trial copy of System Mechanic 7 and cleaned my registry. SM7 indicated 2 errors in my HDD which makes me think my HDD might be going bad.
I am going to replace/ upgrade my HDD. I have a Soyo P4X400 mobo. Could use a SATA-IDE/PATA adapter or a PCI IDE card and run a SATAII 3.0 HDD. I would like to upgrade my HDD since I am going to replace it.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Possible bad HDD, Options?

the upgrade to a sata hard drive is more of a case airflow improvement than computer performance improvement ?

the thin cables of sata make them a dream for increasing the air flow inside your box for sure! but performance increase will be almost non noticible ?

however when you upgrade to a new system in the future / the sata drive will be salvagable>>>> the ide drive is nearing extinction fast

Re: Possible bad HDD, Options?

What is the ideal way to run a SATA HDD on my current mobo? With just the adapter to SATA?

I just D/L the diagnostic test for my Western Digital HDD and it passed the quick test and the deeper complete test. If this is a hardware problem I'm leaning toward my PSU as the faulty part. Its a "Colorcases 400 watt". I just D/L the ultimate troubleshooter to find out if its a software problem. Any input?

Re: Possible bad HDD, Options?

yeah your PSU is a good suspect

I would much rather try an Antec Trio Rail 550 watt unit or the Corsair HX520 watt >>>>> I think the Corsair 520 can be had for a decent price of around $80.00 now!

the best way to add SATA IMHO is a promise brand SATA controller card like this one >>>>> if you motherboad doesnt have sata ports ?

Re: Possible bad HDD, Options?

Yep, no SATA ports. The Ultimate troubleshooter didn't turn up anything alarming, I did switch a few services/tasks to manual to note any difference. Thanks for the product recommendations.
