Post Files "Disappeared"

I have a Maxtor external hard drive. I went to Access my Pictures this morning and noticed when I open my E drive it is Empty. However if I go into Photoshop and open Pics I have saved on there from the E drive they open without issue. I noticed that if i type "E:\my pictures" the folder will open but i have a lot of other information on this drive that I do not remember the folder names for. Is there anything i can do? I already tried to unhide folders and it did nothing.

Thanks For your help

Nick

not sure I would advise anyone who doesn't know their way around windows to "display system files" but it's worth a shot ..

I am wondering whether it's a identity or permissions problem ..
