Mistake Hard Drive Help ? [RESOLVED]

i basically have a new computer, its of no use to me unless my hard drive works with it as that has ALL my files.

The hard drive in the computer is 160gb and mine is 80gb.

if my 80gb hard drive is NOT plugged in (power supply) the pc happily loads xp from the 160gb hard drive. If i plug my 80gb hard drive in no matter what i do the pc will overlook the 160gb hard drive as if it is not their and try and boot from my 80gb one - which it cant. (i then get boot disk failure as win xp isnt installed on that hard drive)

i have tried mucking about with the jumpers for master on the other hard drive but nothing gives.

Please help as my pc is worthless without ALL my files.

Thanks

plummy

Re: Hard Drive Help ?

You need to tell us what type of drives you are dealing with (IDE or Sata), where each is hooked up, and how they are jumpered at the present time. Please tell us also what else is hooked up on each ribbon cable for IDE drives. Might be wise also to list your specs so we know what board you have.

Re: Hard Drive Help ?

Have you tried (you said both hard drives on one ribbon cable) putting the one you want to boot from as Master with jumpers on as master....and placed on the END of the ribbon cable. The secondary drive would have the jumpers on set to SLAVE and on the middle of the ribbon cable. It should work that way. Don't think it will work without jumpers with two drives on that cable.
