Running Ide Hdd As Sata Hdd!
hi
I want to run my 2 80gb IDE hdd as SATA drives, my motherboard (DFI lanparty UT nF3 250GB) has 4 SATA connectors. I know it CAN be done, as I have searched the web for info, my problem is the language used completely goes over my head! Raid? Raid Array? Promise? it means nothing to me at all. I want (need?) a step-by-step guide or tutorial to install IDE hdd to a SATA connection including any parts to do the job (cables etc) Not much to ask as Im sure SOMEBODY will have done this before! further system info is: 2x western digital 80GB hdd (WD800JB) SONY CD-RW CRX230EE IOMEGA 100mb ZIP DRIVE 512MB CRUCIAL PC3200 DDR400 MEMORY GeFORCE 5500 AUREAL SONIC VORTEX thanks for any help! |

Found this on NewEgg. Looks like it will do the job.

Re: Running Ide Hdd As Sata Hdd!
thanks for the rapid response chevy!
I have scrambled eggs where my brain should be because I omitted to mention in my original post that I already bought 2 of these IDE-to-SATA adaptors! (not from the store you mentioned) they came with what I presume to be some kind of SATA cable because they plug into the SATA connectors on the mobo! thats where my problems begin! when I boot up I get a message which I cant work out how to proceed from, its about setting up raid or array or something I dont want to go messing with things I dont understand so I dont do anything at all, I mean if I connect what is now my C drive (and contains the op-sys) to a SATA connection and also reconfigure the raid or whatever will windows boot? I should mention that I bought all the components for my current PC seperately and put them all together myself, a few teething troubles but no real problem at all, SATA on the other hand scares me to death! I have probably put myself off actually doing anything, which is why I have asked for step-by-step help if anyone can provide it (or a link to a plain english tutorial WITH PICS!) thanks again |

Re: Running Ide Hdd As Sata Hdd!
You don't need to set up a RAID ... Depending on your motherboard, there may be a BIOS option to turn off RAID altogether.
Which motherboard do you have? Of course, the big question is why do you want to do this?

Re: Running Ide Hdd As Sata Hdd!
ok the motherboard is a DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 250GB
and the reason I want to do this is I have several hard drives that I cant use because all the IDE connections are being used and if I can run at least 2 HDD as SATA that will give me more options to create storage using the IDE, plus Im way to mean (and poor!) to buy SATA hdd LOL while we are on the subject is it also possible to use the IDE-to-SATA convertors for DVD/RW or CD/RW IDE? cheers |
