Internal to External Conversion Question
Someone I know had a system failure consisting of his computer not turning on. He then purchased a new computer, but would like to recover his hard drive and is thinking of making it external. What, if any, would be the complications of doing this since it was his only hard drive on his old pc? I'm fairly sure its an IDE HDD. Hes not exactly tech savvy so if its not a simple process of buying a kit and installing it, then its probably not a good idea.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Internal to External Conversion Question
You buy a usb enclosure, put the drive in, and thats it. I think you have
to remove jumper. Pretty simple really. Its already formatted so your all set.

Re: Internal to External Conversion Question
Hi,
Almost all external hard drive enclosures require the drive jumper to be set to Master. Beyond that it is a very simple matter to install a drive in an external USB case. hth Ceri |

Re: Internal to External Conversion Question
So there won't be any messy stuff since it was the original (only) drive from the old computer and the whole reason he is doing it is to recover data and then use it as a secondary storage?
