Disk wont show in Explorer
I have an external usb 2.0 enclosure. Most of the time when I plug in a hard drive and hook it up to my pc, it will show up in explorer, but sometimes it installs it and even though i can se it in the device manager under the disk tab, I cant see it eplorer. What the deal? My enclosure supports sata and ata drives. I have tried 2 laptop sata hd and havent gotten neither to how up.

Re: Disk wont show in Explorer
Generally you don't need a driver under XP for these like you did with Win9x. But did your enclosure come with any sort of software driver? Has it worked before on the same computer with the same drive installed? Finally what capacity are we talking about? I ask these various questions because many enclosures with old firmware will only support a certain max capacity.. Heck they could of sat on the shelf for a year and sold it to you yesterday and the same limitation would be there. But you mentioned laptop drives so this probably wouldn't apply if indeed we are talking about a 2.5" enclosure since the max capacity of a laptop drive is 200gb or right around that mark. It's upwards of 200gb where I have personally had problems.
So see if you can answer a couple of those questions. My main concern is narrowing it down to a flakey enclosure, non supporting enclosure, or the actual PC you are plugging it in to. I'll get back to you once you reply here. -Scott Quote:
