Howdy, I've got a Compaq box that I'm replacing with a white box SFF. Since I really didn't want to shell out the money to buy a new HD and copy of Windows, I just yanked the Samsung, SATA drive out of the Compaq and slapped it in the white box. I installed a copy of XUbuntu on the old 'backup' partition, so I know the computer is recognizing and utilizing the hard drive, but when I try and boot Windows XP Home Edition, it says, "Disc Read Error, Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart"
I pulled the hard drive out of the white box, put it back in the Compaq and it booted up fine. So, I figure it's gotta be some software or something that's keeping Windows from booting. Any ideas on what and how I can circumvent it? Thanks! |

Re: HD Transfer failing
You will have to do a repair install to make xp work with your new motherboard. Here is how.
