two hard drives
We tried connecting two hard drives to the same computer. THe problem is one of them is older and used PATA. The new one, however, runs on SATA only. When we connect them both, only SATA is recognized by bios, Primary Master (the PATA drive) is simply said as being not installed... any suggestions?

Re: two hard drives
Could be a BIOS setting, an incorrect jumper setting on the drive, or a bad cable. Make sure you have the jumper on master. If so, try a different cable. Also check your BIOS and make sure everything is enabled that should be for IDE.

Re: two hard drives
I know that in my BIOS under 'Drives' if you select SATA settings (or something like that. Bottom selection under Drives). There should be 3 or 4 settings to choose from. My BIOS explains which setting is required for using both SATA and IDE drives. I'll reboot in a few minutes and see what it's called.
-edit- Ok, in my BIOS under drives if I select 'SATA Operation' I can choose from these 4 settings: RAID Autodetect AHCI RAID Autodetect ATA RAID On Combination If your BIOS has something similar combination should allow the use of both SATA and IDE drives. I should state that I'm not an expert with computers, just saw something that I think I know the answer to. Hope it works for you, Dezroy Last edited by Dezroy; 04-19-2007 at 08:05 PM. |

Re: two hard drives
Not sure on you Bios, but on my two Asus boards it is on the first page under IDE configuration. You go into that you should see your in enhanced mode and you should also see that it is set to SATA. Go in there and see if you have an option to select SATA +Pata
