Files Not Showing On HD
Hi,
I recently removed my old hard drive from my PC and replaced it with a new one as it was causing problems with my machine. I didnt not delete any files from it. I recently purchased a external console caddy to place my old HD. When i connect to any PC, not all my files and folders appear. The hard drive is 160 GB, with 36GB free space. So no files to my knowledge have been deleted, because if that was the case the capacity would have decreased. I ran a search to reveal all the files on the hard drive, and nothing of my work is on it. Nothing I would find under my documents - My music, my videos and my pictures appears, not even the my documents folder is there under my documents and settings - User - My documents (this my documents folder does not exsists) I set the folder so it appears all hidden files and folders. When i ran a search it can back with 35720 hits, but i still cant find any files of my work only windows files and things that were once on my desktop from that hard drive. I'm really stuck i dont know what to do. Please can you help me. Thank You |

Re: Files Not Showing On HD
Yes the old drive is NTSF.
One day i was using the PC and it froze, so i had to restart it. When it started up again a blue screen came up with the error message unmountable boot volume. This happened once before but we was able to rectify the problem, by reinstalling the operating system. This time this process didnt work it came up with another error message - Bad_image_checksum). Anyway we decided just to get a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system on the new one. So they current hard drive is fine. Now i want to retrieve my files from the old drive, (i am using a external enclosure) but it cant seem to find it, i did numerous searches and file recoverys but nothing. As i mentioned before, the hard drive capacity hasnt changed from before it messed up. As in its the same size as it was then, as in there was 36GB free and there still is 36GB free (if that makes sense). So it doesnt seem like any files have gone missing, i just cant really find anything. Does that make sense? |

Just a suggestion.
On the old hard drive in the external caddy, is it set for Slave? Is the new hard drive in your PC set for Master? Is the caddy a USB device attached to the PC? Go to Device Manager/USB Connections to see if the caddy hard drive is shown as Mass Storage or whatever. Why not remove the old hard drive from the caddy and attach it to the PCs cable inside the case. Set the new hard drive as Master, and the old drive as Slave. Go to "My Computer" on your desktop or to "Windows Explorer" and see if you can access the files on the old hard drive this way. It's the simplest approach. The caddy may have a problem displaying the contents of the old hard drive. Not all USB devices are compatible with your specific motherboard USB connections. Good luck.
