hi i recently had a wd 160gb hdd that was in an older system. due to the bio's of the older pc it was only being picked up as a 10gb. now iv'e got a new system and the hdd will still only be read as 10gb. wondering if this can be fixed at all.

Re: wd 160gb running 10gb
yes the full drive can be used.
if you dont need any of the data on the old drive; then I highly suggest you wipe and erase the drive with dariks boot N nuke (free in my signauture links) prefered drive format method: reformat the drive with the manufacturers drive set-up tools found at the hard drive manufacturers website or you can use Windows Disk management to format the drive after it has been wiped for a guide on how to use disk management (see my links in signature)

Re: wd 160gb running 10gb
uttttt ohhhhhhh
give us the model number of this hard drive it looks as though thats all of it ! normally if there was a chunk of the drive that was not being used or was messed up or just plain wasnt ready for use; it would show up and be labeled as RAW or unallocated or something ????? but the more isnt even showing, which leads me to believe there isnt any MORE

Re: wd 160gb running 10gb
Do you have 48-bit LBA support enabled? Hard drives larger than 137BG won't be recognized as such. Most of the time a 160GB drive would be recognized as 137GB if this was the case however.

Sorry to bump this old thread -- but I haven't been able to find your "links in signature." I'd like to see the guide on how to use disk management. ![]() Thanks. |
