Re: Sata Drive question

Can't say we've not been rushing for help...

Did you try to feel if the disk was getting power at all by touching it with your palm ?

Re: Sata Drive question

I have enjoed this collaboration with all invloved

I wish there was something more I could think of to try, but the drive is failing at a very elementary level. So their is little remaining that it could be?

recap time:

you have tried multiple molex power connectors (dont use the sata power plugs, those stink) ?

you have tried the working drives sata data cable on the questionable drive?

you have used the know working sata port ?

I can not think of anything you have missed?

Re: Sata Drive question

I too agree, I have tried everything I can think of too.

I have verified that the sata cables and power cables are fuctioning.

I have swaped the known good drive w/ the one in question and all 4 sata ports work.

Re: Sata Drive question

Well; I think its safe to stray alittle off course here, as it appears the OP is headed for RMA with a dead drive ?

I have experienced several real pain in the butt problems with PSU sata drive power plugs, most being the push down pin to secure the wires with-in the plug type.
There is a little flat cap on the top of a sata drive power plug, lift that cap and you will see what holds the wire in the plug as well as makes the contact.

If you get an active user in his case playing with air flow, dust removal, trying video cards etc. Disturbing these power connections in a busy case turns problematic in my experience.

I have serviced several machines which got interupted power to the drives from these style conntectors. The four pin molex connector is a much better performer IMHO.

I now avoid using the sata drive power plugs.

another feauture I really like about the gigabyte mother boards are the positive snap lock sata data cables.

well #1 if there was any warranty left it would have to come from dell
you could input your machines service code found on a sticker at the rear of the case to verify
